While styles for home decoration are constantly changing, the beginning
of a new year is as good a time as any to take stock and focus on the
trends that will be inspiring us in the coming months. Aberdeen-based
interior designer Lynne Frost of Lynne Frost Interiors talks us through
her predictions for spring 2007.
2006 saw the rise of the ‘statement wall’ and the return
of bright and bold patterned wallpaper, this trend is set to continue
into spring but is likely to be toned down with the emphasis placed on
more subtle details.
Lynne
said: “It’s easy to become overwhelmed by bold colours and
patterns. David Oliver’s Orchestration collection is a highly original
and versatile collection of wallpaper which will bring a subtle sense
of grandeur to any room. When planning your colour schemes, remember that
colour is influenced by light which is constantly changing, so it’s
important to test samples of the paint or paper in various lights.”

Pattern doesn’t necessarily need to be daring. An excellent example
of how pattern and texture can be introduced into the home without making
quite such a bold statement can be seen in the Kelly Hoppen carpet range
for Wool Classics.
“Kelly
is renowned for her emphasis on subtle tones and textures, illustrated
beautifully in her new collection. The selection of designs is adaptable
to any room style and will complement a wide variety of schemes without
detracting from other key pieces in the room. To bring muted, natural
interiors up to date for the coming year, dress the room with strong,
architectural furniture for a sophisticated feel.” Lynne said.

Looking
ahead to spring, if subtle colours are not to your taste; bright, fun
accessories for the home will be a quick and easy way to update a look
and offer an alternative to the softer styles which are proving popular.
Glass accessories in particular are going to be the most fashionable.
“These
beautiful Perfume Bottle Lamps from British company Porta Romana have
a unique glass base with bright silk shades – these colourful pieces
will brighten up any room. Alternatively, J. Robert Scott has produced
hand blown Venetian Glass bottles in a variety of colours which look fabulous
as elegant vases for spring flowers or on their own in an ornamental arrangement.”
